- Of equal importance is to generate profits and to grow responsibly.
Welcome to My Farmhouse Kitchens (MFK), the franchisor of the local food manufacturing company Pinnacle Foods & Hospitality Group (Pty.) Ltd. based in Botswana. Our mainstay products are the savoury / curry puffs and the pound cakes.
We are not a restaurant. We do however, have a culinary wing that does exclusive finger-food cuisines for boardroom and hi-tea events. We offer a unique selection of global cuisines and position our offering for corporate and private events. This allows us to showcase the quality of our production and how incredibly delicious our curry puffs are. Our front of the house will eventually be the franchise retail stores. Today, we list our products on online stores and ready-to-eat food delivery apps. These include Yamee and online stores such as Skymart and Ziggie.com. We see these in turn foster the industry to create 40,000 jobs in and around Botswana.
Every MFK curry puff is painstakingly prepared - curried potatoes, succulent bite-sized chicken chunks mixes with a perfect combination of herbs and spices to create the flawless flavour and texture that Batswana have loved over the last ten years.
A cuisine is a characteristic style of cooking practices and traditions, often associated with a specific region, country or culture. We work round the clock discovering, preparing, and delivering good foods the likes of our delectable signature products. This way you know you are guaranteed to have the best culinary experience money can buy without spending days researching and preparing on your own.
Today, with modernized standards and processes and recipes improved over the years by rigorous research, the curry puff continues to propel MFK to new heights.
THE ORIGINS OF THE CURRY PUFFS
Some see its resemblance to the Cornish pasty that the British introduced (it’s a semi-circular baked pastry crimped on the round side, filled with meat, onion, turnip and potatoes).
Pasties themselves have been mentioned in cookbooks as far back as the 1300s. It was eaten by the working class (convenient portable food) and royalty alike. It’s been speculated that the crimped side was for miners to hold while they eat, and to be discarded, so they don’t ingest any toxic elements from their dirty fingers. But they were also eaten whole when wrapped in a paper bag.
THE RELATION BETWEEN THE CURRY PUFFS AND ITS COUSINS ....
The curry puff also has a similar cousin in the samosa.
Although associated with India, these samosas are not indigenous to the Indians. You’ll be surprised to know the samosa is not indigenous to India. Early medieval Persian texts mention the “sanbosag” (etymologically similar to “samsa”, meaning pyramid). Traders from the Middle East and Central Asia brought the “sambosa” to India, and the Indians added their own spices, and also made it vegetarian in some parts.
Then there is the empanada which came from Portugal and Galicia in northwestern Spain, and spread to Latin America. These were also influenced by the samosa, so they share the Middle Eastern roots.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CURRY PUFFS AND SAMOSA
SAMOSA
CURRY PUFF (karipap)
When the ingredients and the processes come together, a bite into a crispy and fluffy puff leaves you with an explosion of flavours that help it stand head and shoulders above its cousins. It is a delicious snack that can be served with your evening tea or coffee or you can have it in between meals. A heavy dish that will fill you up by only having a few pieces. Move over samosas. As you make the curry puffs your go-to snack! You can't help and not be excited when you talk about the curry puffs!

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CURRY PUFFS AND SAMOSA
SAMOSA
- A sturdy pastry that does not use butter and so does not 'puff'
- Usually stuffed with spiced potatoes, onion, peas, cumin and coriander
- Believed it originated from Central Asia
- Triangular or tetrahedron shaped
- Deep-fried
CURRY PUFF (karipap)
- Uses short-crust pastry. It is flakier since the pastry includes butter but not as much as puff pastry does.
- Usual ingredients are curry powder, chicken and potatoes giving it a richer curried flavour
- Of South-East Asian (malay) origin
- Semi-circle shaped and usually hand-crimped on the sides
- Definitely deep-fried!

SO WHO ARE WE?
Our goal is to produce and present distinct (while rich and delicate) authentic appetizing global foods intended for cafes, restaurants and stores, launching off with the curry puffs. This way we push the boundaries of modern cuisine in Africa and become the leading store in the region. We do not use off-the-shell products. We prepare our products from scratch. It takes time but that gives the edge to our unique MFK flavours.
Today our attention is on carving out our brand. To do so, we provide food catering services for intimate events such as for boardroom meetings, family or corporate events. We work currently as part of a cottage industry located in Ledumadumane (off the 1st right as you reach Leduma Dumane from Pula Spar). This is before we step out as a an industry with our franchisees and operate manufacturing outlets.
WHAT SETS US APART
We are working at achieving three goals:
- Create a niche market producing favourite global food cuisines and flavours not found in the region;
- Create a home-grown franchise network for the country and the southern African region with its supporting value chains (agriculture, manufacturing and retail);
