WHAT IS BRIX? Brix is a scale measuring sugar content based on a light refraction index. It is most commonly used in the fruit, vegetable, juice and wine making industries. But it has applicability to all plants. Studies have found that the plants internal defenses (such as insect and disease resistance) are significantly affected by the nutrition of the plant.
Excellent Brix level readings indicate that proper nutrition by the soils regenerative quality has conferred general immunity to bacterial, fungal and insect attacks on the plants. Crop plans should therefore focus on healthy plants that can defend themselves rather than applying poisonous chemicals that have become the norm in modern agriculture today. Focus instead on, plants enriching the biology of the soil by contributing organic matter and in turn soil biology provide essential nutrients and water that the plant needs. Poisonous chemicals destroy this essential ecosystem. Sounds familiar? Many organizations are moving to flatter structures, and now more than ever, more is expected of the few. What is the BRIX level of your teams? How much does your organisation understands a team that thinks and works cohesively as natural ecosystems that support each other, are the most productive? An effective team is one that’s performing well and contributing to the overall success of the company, while simultaneously providing its members with an environment of dependability, and strong understanding where they can do their best work, develop, and feel a sense of belonging and pride. Take your team or boardroom out of your context and expose them to the ideas of what it takes to build an ecosystem in nature. We share the seven principles nature uses to rebuild essential topsoil for plant biology with practical showcasing of our nursery. DON'T say it is a team-building exercise. Take a day and mind off the rigours of the business and enjoy a day as a team just out learning with nature. A chill-out day for the mind, emotions and the body. However, come out of the experience understanding interconnectedness and interrelationships and ready to figure out how it too can work for teams. Best day for corporate team programmes on Thursdays. Boardroom training capacity up to eight persons each session. DEVELOPMENTS AT WORK: MFK Gardens Urban Farmer Nursery is a part of Pinnacle Foods & Hospitality Group the parent organisation to the franchise brand My Farmhouse Kitchens. We are a food manufacturing organisation in the making. The operation will focus on the manufacturing of our mainstay signature product the curry puffs. The product has grown in the market in the city and has helped us grow this far. This is since 2012, when we first established the organization. We have just crossed the 10,000 mark of likes on our FB page. There are plans underway to list our products on Yamee, to setup a culinary school with experienced chefs on board to carry out programmes targetted at the busy executive-cum-culinary enthusiast, expatriate housewifes and offer corporate and couple bonding programmes, to offer personal chef services (in addition to event catering) and setup the MFK - The Shop, that will be mark the forerunners of our franchisee system. More about our food production expansion plans in our next letter. OUR HISTORY WITH MFK-GARDENS FARM In mid-2020, we began MFK-Gardens farm production venture. We produced crop seedlings for our local famers up to a capacity of 40K seedlings. The farm production is not a venture outside of who we are already. The idea is rooted in our name. My Farmhouse Kitchens. That the products we produce uses ingredients grown freshly in our gardens or nearby local farms. Today our focus is in supplying quality seedlings to farmers who in turn produce quality crops that we buy back for use in our food production. The decision to start this coincided with the onset of COVID19 lockdowns when locals farmers lost access to their usual suppliers in South Africa. We see this as an opportunity to grow a strong chain in the local industry. In March this year of 2021, we moved from our old premises to a bigger one in Ledumadumane. The move was intended to expand our capacity in both our farm and food productions and continue to drive to our goal of building the MFK franchise, and through it, create 40,000 jobs in the industry.’’ We have now designed and built a nursery facility which includes a greenhouse infrastructure and a garden eco-system that can produce 200,000 crop and fruit seedlings. After eight months, we are happy to announce the facility is now ready for production. We have been testing the facility and are confident it is able to meet its production demands. What had started out as a corporate social responsibility project in the face of COVID19 when local farmers were cut off from their typical supply of seedlings from SA, it has now grown in to a self-sustained venture in its own right with a four-man core team running its operations. We have now positioned the venture to meet the needs of the urban crop farmer who has setup farms in and around Gaborone intending to grow and supply vegetables ranging from beetroot, green peppers, tomatoes, garlic, chilli, swiss chard and spinach in summer and cabbage, cauliflower, lettuce, brocolli and herbs, in winter for the local market. ADVANTAGES OF A NURSERY:
These here would mean we can now carry out the following production activities with greater efficiency. STEPS TO SEEDLING PRODUCTION:

HOW TO GET YOUR SEEDLINGS WHEN YOU WANT THEM:
Afternoon tea is a light meal composed of three course of tea sandwiches and savories, followed by scones with clotted cream and jam, and ending with sweet pastries. Everything is bite-sized and eaten with fingers.
Afternoon tea time is around 4PM, between lunch and dinner. The light meal is not meant to replace dinner but instead to tide you over until dinner which was usually at 8PM for the aristocrats. The concept of afternoon tea started in England in the 1840s when The Duchess of Bedford wanted a small bite between lunch and dinner. It started out as just tea and a small snack. but the popularity grew once she started inviting her friends over and it became a social gathering for the wealthy social class. Afternoon tea is also called ‘low tea' since they were enjoyed on low tables with comfortable chairs and sofas in the drawing room. Tasting fingers has never been this good! Book and pay two (2) weeks prior to event date. 75987534 / myfarmhousekitchens@gmail.com Valentine's Day is the time to show your special someone in your life how much you care. This year go all-out impressing her with tantalizing flavors of My Farmhouse Kitchens finger foods and top off our eight-piece combo with red velvet cupcakes with smooth cream cheese frosting.
